South Tyneside CCG

The Partners of Mayfield Medical Group provide Standard General Medical Services and hold a contract with the South Tyneside CCG.

Non NHS Medical Examinations

Some services are not covered by the NHS and a charge will be made in line with the BMA scale of fees.

These include medical examinations e.g.:

  • HGV licence
  • Employment medicals
  • Driving insurance etc
  • Oil and Gas Medicals
  • ENG1

as well as certain certificates e.g.:

  • Private insurance claims
  • Private sick notes
  • Holiday cancellations etc

Immunisation and Advice for Travel

The Practice Nurse can advise on vaccination requirements for patients travelling abroad and give vaccinations as required. In order that your vaccinations have time to take effect before your holiday it is important to arrange to have them at least two months before you travel.

Lifestyle Advice

Smoking Cessation and Alcohol Reduction

The Practice offers an in-house Smoke Stop Clinic where support is given on a one to one basis. We can also refer patients to locally provided Smoke Stop group sessions and support.

HRT Reviews

The Practice offers review and monitoring for those patients on Hormone Replacement Therapy.

Chlamydia and Gonorrhoea

You can request a chlamydia and gonorrhoea screening pack by clicking on the link below, this will take you to South Tyneside Foundation Trust. You can complete the form, which will be sent to an email mailbox monitored by the South Tyneside Sexual Health Team. They will send you a testing pack. Simply post the completed sample via Freepost to the Public Health England Laboratory.

Clinical Services

The Practice provides management of care to all our patients who are ill or believe themselves to be ill, with conditions from which recovery is generally expected,  for the duration of that condition, including relevant health promotion advice and referral as appropriate, reflecting patient choice wherever practicable.  General management of patients who are terminally ill.

The Practice also provides management of care to those patients who suffer from a Chronic Disease, in consultation with the patient.  This will also include the Care and Management of Stroke or Transient Ischaemic Attack, Cancer Care, Hypothyroidism, Mental Health and Epilepsy.

Minor Surgery

Held by : Dr Cordner
Time : Wednesday 2:00pm – 4:00pm

Various minor surgical procedures are carried out in the practice (for example, removal of cysts and lumps).  Your doctor will discuss this with you if you require this service.

Antenatal Care

Held by : Community Midwife
Time: Tuesdays

Routine antenatal care is undertaken by the community midwife, appointments are made by contacting the practice.

Child Health Clinic

The Health Visitors are available in the community for routine health and developmental advice for children under the age of 5 years, contact the surgery for further details.

Immunisation of Children

Held by: Practice Nurse
Time: Friday morning 9:00am – 12noon

These sessions are for well children only.  Unwell children should be seen during routine surgeries to minimise the spread of infections.

Practice Nurse Clinics

The Practice believes that prevention is better than cure and is pleased to offer a wide range of Health Promotion Clinics tailored to meet our patient’s needs.

Our practice nurse carries out a variety of specialist services and chronic disease monitoring according to clinical protocols. Please make an appointment at reception to see the practice nurse who will be able to help you with:

Cervical Smears

We recommend ALL women from the age of 25 have a cervical smear every 3 years, as problems detected this way can usually be cured. Appointments can be made with your Doctor during normal Surgery, provided you request a ‘Smear’ appointment. Our Nurses are also fully trained to perform smears and can do so during any Nurse Surgery. We request you make an appointment for this to be done.

Influenza Vaccinations

Flu vaccination is recommended for patients aged 65 and over or those who suffer with a Chronic Disease including Diabetes, Heart, Kidney or Liver problems, are Immuno-Suppressed , have Sickle Cell Disease or Absent Spleen.

The Practice Nurse also runs the following clinics:

Asthma Clinic

Review and monitoring is offered to those patients who suffer from Asthma.   The Clinic supports patients in the management of their condition.

COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease) Clinic

Provides support to patients who suffer Respiratory Problems such as Chronic Bronchitis and Emphysema.  The Clinic provides patients with regular review of their condition, measurement of respiratory flow, smoking advice and an assessment of treatment.

Diabetes Clinic

Review and monitoring is offered for those patients who suffer from Diabetes, both Insulin and Non-Insulin Dependant.  The Clinic supports patients in the management of their condition together with advice on lifestyle, diet, weight and glucose testing.

Heart and Stroke Clinics

These Clinics provide support to patients in the management of their condition, regular monitoring and testing, advice, diet and healthy lifestyle.
